This Teleclass will cover:

  • Small inexpensive things you can do;
  • What specific changes you can make in each room of the house, so your parents can live there - safely and independently - as they grow older.
  • The cardinal sins of typical home construction and their effect on your family
  • How to find a CAPS Certified contractor who does the type of work on the AARP and NAHB websites.
  • Bigger home modification projects and what they cost.
  • Hope for the future - changing the way we build houses

About Our Speaker

Dan Bawden is President of Legal Eagle Contractors, Co., an award-winning, design-build remodeling firm in Houston, Texas. He is well known for founding the nationally accredited "Certified Aging in Place Specialist" or "CAPS" program in 2001 when he brought together the AARP and the National Assoc. of Home Builders ("NAHB") as partners in this successful project to help seniors and the physically challenged.

Dan has earned two places on the “world’s worst” list -- by being both a remodeler and a practicing attorney.   Nonetheless, he is a champion for baby boomers trying to help their parents age gracefully, safely and independently.

He is a passionate advocate for the aging-in-place and Universal Design movement in this country, and practices what he preaches in his remodeling, design, and construction work.  Dan has opened the wildly popular “Idea Center” showroom in Houston, Texas to demonstrate to clients and students numerous unique remodeling ideas, in a working house.  He continues to teach the CAPS and universal design classes around the country.

Dan is a Graduate Master Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Green Professional and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist.  Dan has been voted “Texas Remodeler of the Year” four times and “Houston Remodeler of the Year twice”!   His comments regularly appear in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Money Magazine, Forbes, Better Homes & Gardens & more.  He has made appearances on HGTV and local radio call in shows.

In his spare time also sings and dances in musical theatre productions, is a trumpet player, a golfer, underwater photographer and racquetball player.
