Ellen Gavin
Executive/Artistic Director

Ellen Gavin is the Founder and Director of Brava! For Women in the Arts and the Brava Theater Center. She has produced dozens of productions during her twenty years with the organization, including works by: Cherrie Moraga, Cherylene and Naomi Iizuka, to name a few. Ellen has received Focus Magazine’s 1997 Artistic Achievement Award, the 1998 LAVA award, the 1996 Bay Guardian Local Hero Award and the 1992 Goldie Local Discovery Award.

Ellen was one of the first female firefighters in the San Diego Fire Department, inspiring her first play, The Roof's on Fire!, which received 1st Place in the Bay Guardian Playwriting Competition. Her play, Apertura Modotti premiered at BRAVA in 2001. Additionally, she recently completed two screenplays at UCLA and is currently signed with a LA management company.

After losing everything in hurricane Katrina, Valeri moved to San Francisco to be a staff member with Landmark Education, a well-known worldwide transformational company because of her work and belief in transforming lives for others. She is most passionate about empowering women and children. She has worked with entire families, including men.
